Hatfield, Banning New Team Leading NPA

“The National Parking Association, as the leading advocate for the parking industry, focuses on industry growth, tax policy, green business advances, and technological innovation. Our mission is to empower the success of our commercial, public and institutional members through professional development, networking opportunities and exceptional member services,” said Jed Hatfield, as he began his two year term as Chairman of the NPA. He joins Christine Banning who was appointed the President of the organization.
Banning is an experienced, nonprofit executive with a proven track record building brands, innovating uses of technology, supporting member development and increasing organizational success. Banning is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and member of the American Society of Association Executives.
Hatfield, CPP was elected to a two-year term as Chairman of the Board at the organization’s convention in Boston in October. He will serve as Chairman of this national trade group representing the parking industry, which was established in 1951. Hatfield is a Certified Parking Professional, having earned that the NPA’s certification in 2008.

Hatfield is an advocate for the hundreds of private owners and operators, valet companies, colleges and universities, municipalities, medical centers, airports, equipment manufacturers and distributors and consultants who hold NPA membership.
He is dedicated to the NPA, providing professional development, networking and advocacy to members. As Board Chairman, Hatfield will establish the vision, advocacy agenda and strategic focus on the industry wide effort to elevate business, community, industry and government outreach around the economic and policy issues facing the parking industry today.
Hatfield is the president of Colonial Parking, Inc. in Wilmington, Del. He leads a family-owned business with more than 40 parking facilities, 285 employees and management operations in the Wilmington, Del., and Delaware County and Philadelphia, Pa., areas.
Having held national Board of Directors roles since 1998, most recently, he served on the Executive Committee as chair-elect and vice chair. He is a 20-year member of the association, as is his brother Greg Hatfield. His father, Richard G. “Dick” Hatfield, founded Colonial Parking in 1956 and has been a member of the NPA for more than 50 years, serving as president in 1975-76.
Hatfield has significant experience with the design and construction review as well as initial implementation of parking control systems, and he has been actively involved in the design, construction and management of several major garages.
Recognizing the critical link between parking and real estate, he is also a second vice president of the Committee of 100, an economic development organization in Wilmington, Del.; immediate past chairman of the Transportation Management Association of Delaware; co-chair of the Wilmington Renaissance Corporation Transportation Working Group; a committee member of the Main Street Wilmington Design Committee; a member of the Commercial-Industrial Realty Council in Wilmington, Del.; and a member of the Urban Land Institute.
Hatfield is the founding co-chair of the Crozer-Chester Foundation Professional Group; serves on the Board of Directors of Artisans Bank and Downtown Visions of Wilmington, and is a member of the Caesar Rodney Rotary Club. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Delaware.

Banning previously served as the Vice President of Marketing & Communications for the SCORE Association, Washington, D.C. SCORE represents more than 12,400 members and 364 chapters that provide small business mentoring & training to 350,000 entrepreneurs annually. Banning joined SCORE in 1995 and rose through a number of positions of increasing responsibility including director of public information and vice president of corporate relations, before becoming vice president of marketing and communications,
During her tenure, she increased the association’s adoption of technology to develop online services, which today are 30 percent of the association’s business. She increased the association’s services with double-digit growth this year, led rebranding, enhanced the association’s reputation attracting Fortune 500 partners and raised public visibility to reach an annual media audience of 2.4 billion. During her tenure, SCORE won ASAE’s highest honor the Summit Award in 2004 and the USA Freedom Corp Award in 2003.
Before joining SCORE she led marketing and public relations as part of a $20 million, family-owned, contracting firm. She has served as a national spokesperson and been interviewed by The Washington Post, CNN, Dow Jones News Service and numerous print and broadcast media on small business.
She is a corporate advisory council member, consumer segments, for American Airlines, Dallas, Texas, completing her term in 2010. She is a charter member of the American Airlines advisory council on women’s business segment strategy. She also serves on the National Advisory Council for the Women’s Leadership Exchange, New York, NY and the Center for the Arts Bonita Springs Corporate Advisory Council, Bonita Springs, FL. She is an honorary member of the New York City Chapter of SCORE.
Currently she serves on the Board of Directors of Dress for Success, Washington, D.C., where she chairs the nominating committee. She is a member of the International Women’s Forum, Public Relations Society of America and International Association of Business Communicators, where she holds the ABC accreditation.
Banning earned a B.A. in Public Relations from Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio and an M.A. in Public Communication from The American University, Washington, D.C.
