CHARLES GENUNG, Founder of AIMS

Charles D. Genung, born February 16, 1943 in Oswego, NY, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 26 in Naples, FL. Chuck grew up in Fulton, NY and was educated at St. Mary’s School, Oswego Catholic High School, SUNY Oswego and Syracuse University. 

Chuck married his high school sweetheart Nancy Penkala on August 20, 1966 in Fulton, NY. They shared life together for 43 years in Baldwinsville, NY and Naples, since 2017. 

Chuck is survived by wife Nancy and three children: Christopher (Gayl) and their son Austin (Haleigh); Matthew (Cristina) and their children Giulia, Sophia, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Anna; Ellen Genung (Julie) and children Ella and Sam, and nieces Susan, Kimberly, and Christine.

He was preceded in death by sister Joyce (Jesse) Wallace, and parents Charles and Josephine Scardella Genung. 

Chuck received his BA in Education from SUNY Oswego and Masters of Education and Psychology from Syracuse University. He was an educator of students with special needs and eventually director at The House of Providence in Syracuse, NY. His foray into the high-tech industry began as an entrepreneur in instructional technology, then founder and CEO of EDC Corporation, the leader in parking enforcement technology serving universities and municipalities. Since his retirement, Christopher and Ellen now head the company. 

In youth, Chuck was a leader in athletics and worked as a shoe salesman at Seibels shoe store. The values of hard work and family he developed as a young man drove him in the education of his children and the founding of his businesses. He was deliberate in the way he chose family leisure activities in order to strengthen family bonds and the development of his children and grandchildren. Included in this were family seasons of skiing, and boating. He loved to celebrate life with family and friends.

Chuck and Nancy traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and enjoyed ocean cruising. Equally happy at home, they were famous for festive annual summer and Christmas parties for their beloved family and friends. His was a life well lived. In lieu of flowers, and in the spirit of Chuck’s humble generosity, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
