A Parking Cake

May, 2017

Hi, John:

I wanted to share this with you. It’s the birthday cake I had designed for my father Chic Wolk’s 90th birthday.

He is one of the Los Angeles parking industry pioneers, having begun Chic’s Auto Parks in 1956, which later became Charter Parking. And he was a partner in the original Five Star Parking.

His first LA lot was on Bunker Hill [downtown] near the Angels Flight [funicular, the world’s shortest railway]. He worked it himself.

Parking was 45 cents a day, and when he raised it to 50 cents, customers were angry!
