NPA Honors Colonial’s Jed Hatfield With Harwood Leadership Award

The National Parking Association (NPA) has awarded Jed Hatfield, CPP, of Colonial Parking in Delaware with the industry’s highest honor, the Brett Harwood Leadership & Legends Award. This prestigious national honor, presented to Hatfield at the NPA Winter Leadership Forum, recognizes lifelong achievement, excellence and integrity.
“Jed Hatfield, CPP, embodies ethics, excellence and a commitment to parking professionalism, certification and the importance of parking best-practices,” said NPA President Christine Banning, CAE. “During his tenure [at the NPA], he has led an organizational transformation, acquisition of a valet parking association, and the launch of NPA’s Research Program.
“The NPA Board of Directors selected Hatfield as the 2017 honoree for his lifelong leadership commitment to professional development and dedication to industry education,” Banning said.
Hatfield is President of Colonial Parking, a family-owned business founded by his father, Richard G. “Dick” Hatfield in 1956. His father was honored as the Harwood Leadership Award honoree in 2015.
Jed Hatfield, a long-time member of the NPA, held national Board of Director roles from 1998 to 2012. He served on the Executive Committee as chair-elect and vice chair, and was Chairman of the Board from 2010-2012. He chaired the National Leadership Advisory Board from 2013-2014.
Colonial Parking has more than 40 parking facilities, 285 employees and management operations in Wilmington, DE, and the Delaware County, PA, and Philadelphia areas. Hatfield has significant experience with the design and construction review, as well as initial implementation, of parking control systems, and has been actively involved in the design, construction and management of several major garages.

Recognizing the crucial link between parking and real estate, Hatfield also is President of the Committee of 100, a Wilmington economic development organization; an Executive Committee Member of the Wilmington Renaissance Corp.; an Executive Committee Member of Downtown Visions, the city’s Business Improvement District; and a member of the Commercial-Industrial Realty Council in Wilmington.
Active in the community, Hatfield is the founding Co-Chair of the Crozer-Chester Foundation Professional Group; a member of the Board of Directors of Artisans Bank; and a member of the Caesar Rodney Rotary Club.
The NPA Board of Directors established the Harwood leadership award in 2013 to honor lifetime achievement in parking industry leadership. Jed Hatfield is the fourth recipient of the award, and was honored Jan. 31 at the NPA Winter Leadership Forum.
The National Parking Association, established in 1951, is “the voice,” it says, “of the $28 billion parking industry” composed of private parking owners and public parking operators, who together employ more than 143,000 people.
