Donald J. Nores:

December, 2016

Founder Of Digital Printing Systems

It is with sadness that Digital Printing Systems (DPS) announces the passing of our founder and industry leader, Mr. Donald J. Nores. Don died in June surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

Don started DPS in 1971 to serve parking lot and garage operators in Southern California. He identified an industry need to deliver a high-quality product, combined with responsive and flexible customer service.

Don believed the best way to succeed with this objective was to focus on our customers’ needs, and then be able to respond accordingly. Those same principles that served as the company’s foundation 45 years ago remain in place today.

With Don’s guidance, DPS grew steadily over the years, becoming a parking and transit industry leader providing product throughout the Americas, Europe and the Pacific Rim. In 2002, Peter Young joined the Azusa, CA-based company as President, with Don serving as Chairman until his passing. Still a family business, Don’s son Jim is Vice President of Production and Brian is Vice President of Operations.

Don was deeply involved in his community, as a founding Director of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, and in a number of charitable organizations, including his alma mater, Loyola Marymount University, Loyola High School, Mayfield School and Huntington Hospital.

Don is survived by his wife, Joyce, who served DPS as Vice President-Treasurer from 1971-2002; children Jim, Nancy and Brian; and many loving grandchildren.
