Leading European Parking Website, App Rev Up in U.S.

September, 2014

JustPark, the No. 1 European website and app for booking parking spaces, has officially launched in the U.S. Backed by the venture capital arm of luxury car giant BMW, the online and mobile service lets drivers find and reserve low-cost spots in even the most notoriously difficult cities for parking.

The arrival of the London-based company on U.S. shores will shake up an already turbulent area of technology, following the cease-and-desist order issued in June by the San Francisco City Attorney to the MonkeyParking app, which the city said sought to monetize public spaces illegally.

JustPark, however, works in collaboration with the parking spaces’ owners, including municipal governments, carparks, churches and even residential homeowners with a spare space on their drive. These spaces are then made available to JustPark’s fast-growing community of drivers to rent through the website and app.

JustPark – previously known as ParkatmyHouse – was founded in 2006 by Anthony Eskinazi in San Francisco. While on a round-the-world trip, he was struggling to park at a baseball game there and recognized a great opportunity for homeowners and drivers – if only they could find a way of making contact. He arrived home in London, built the website from scratch, and the business was born.

Now, with homeowners offering more than 100,000 affordable and convenient parking spaces to more than a half-million registered drivers across the UK, as well as a strong Australian following, the company has commenced a radical expansion into the U.S. It has established a satellite office in Manhattan, New York, and is looking to forge partnerships with property owners and carpark operators in every major U.S. city by the end of 2014.
