The new year brings two new Principals, Zabe Bent and Ria Hutabarat Lo, to the NelsonNygaard San Francisco office, and a newly promoted Principal, Ralph DeNisco, in Boston. “Ralph’s promotion is well-deserved, and we are excited to welcome friends” to the firm, said COO Paul Jewel. “Zabe is a longtime collaborator, and we are thrilled to have Ria back. Lighting Alternatives President Howard P. Lewis, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America representative to the National Lighting Bureau (NLB), has been elected to an unprecedented fifth consecutive term as NLB Chair. James M. DAQ Electronics, a leading manufacturer of high-end security software and equipment, recently announced that its EntroWatch access control system was selected for a 2014 Top Products Award by Building Operating Management magazine. The company said that the world’s first PoE/PoE+ native BACnet access control system addresses emerging requirements in the commercial security market by offering integrators an easy-to-install and -maintain system designed to an industry standard.

Effective mid-January, Nedap AVI, part of Netherlands-based Nedap N.V., now globally operates under the name Nedap Identification Systems. The reason for the name change, the company says, is that over the past few years, Nedap AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification) has developed energetically and expanded its portfolio – from specialist in long-range RFID solutions for vehicle and driver identification to a solution-provider with a wider portfolio.



Bomel Construction Co. has completed an 1,800-stall, four-level parking structure in Southern California’s Inland Empire, on time and within the owner’s budget. The 640,000-square-foot garage, built in 12 months at a construction cost of $16 million, stands at the east wing of Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon. Owned by Simon Property Group Premium Outlets, it’s said to be one of the nation’s busiest.



The MaxLite 9-watt LED R30, with a GU24 base, has an earned Energy Star rating for Certified Subcomponent Database. “This achievement ... will enable other manufacturers to quickly obtain Energy Star qualification of new fixtures at a reduced cost,” said Product Marketing Manager Alex Truong. “This LED lamp provides high-quality light and saves up to 85% in energy consumption.”

LaMar Lighting Co. has received UL approval for factory installation of internal and external driver LED tubes in a wide range of its surface-mount luminaires. That, the company said, allows it to offer the latest LED technology within a broad line of luminaires quickly and cost-efficiently and streamlines the purchasing and installation process for customers.

The University of Arkansas for the Medical Sciences, in Little Rock, has awarded a $1.3 million contract to NextGen Parking of Houston for a 3M parking access and revenue control system. The installation will feature full online control of 3 parking decks and 13 surface lots from 3M’s Enterprise Facility Management System software and Commend IP Intercoms running across the school’s IT infrastructure.

MaxLite has appointed Caroline Nagy as Human Resources Manager. She reports directly to President and CEO Yon Sung. In this newly created position, Nagy will focus on building the employee team through talent recruitment, engagement and retention across the company.

Ticketech, an industry-leading provider of parking technology for dense urban environments, said it will to continue to build on more than 40 years of extensive development expertise and bring new products and services to the valet/attended segment of the parking industry throughout 2014. Those will include the Auditor, an LPR-enabled tool that provides enhanced checks and balances to the company’s revenue control technology.

Scheidt & Bachmann recently noted that the Manchester Airport Group (MAG), the UK’s largest such enterprise, “exemplifies the ideal model of a successful parking group operating under an efficient, fully automated parking system.” Specifically, MAG’s command center incorporates S&B’s Entervo software features to effectively manage a $125 million operation remotely. MAG operates four airports (Manchester, London Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth); employs more than 41,000 people; and serves 42 million passengers annually.



The City of Richmond, CA, and Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) recently celebrated the opening of a new six-story, 750-space parking structure at the Richmond Intermodal BART station at Transit Village. The Richmond Community Redevelopment Agency contracted Kimley-Horn & Associates to provide project management and final design services. Watry Design was the architect, and Overaa Construction built the garage.
