It's Not Just Fun and Games: A Lesson in Proper Parking

Two innovative products teach parkers to mind restrictions

By Robert Hoebee

For 45 years, The Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA, has helped develop young minds into caring, successful and talented men and women. Its campus is dynamic, its curriculum challenging and engaging, and its focus is on the whole of the student. Parents are a vital part of the learning experience.

So when it came to ensuring secure, safe and reliable parking for parents, the administration looked to Designated Parking Corp.

Its solution, the MySpot 200, is a low-cost, self-contained, remote-controlled barrier that secures a parking space – or restricts access to a driveway – with the click of a button from inside a vehicle.

The parking barrier is easily secured into the road or the surface of a parking lot. Drivers simply push a button and the barrier in front of their space moves down so a vehicle can be parked, or back up again so the space can stay reserved.

The Myspot 200 uses a proprietary method of capturing energy from the vehicle’s weight and storing the power to lower and raise the barrier on command. This eliminates the need to connect the device to an electrical power source, or the bulk and cost of batteriesl.

Installation is simple and fast, no digging or major site preparation is required. Two steel plates are mounted to the surface of the parking space or driveway using anchors. The unit is this attached to these plates with security bolts.

“We absolutely love our new parking barriers,” said Amy Sorensen, The Nueva School’s Executive Assistant. “We’ve installed two of the three parking barriers thus far, and the parents at our school are so thrilled with them.

“We were having problems with people parking in their private auction spaces, but not any longer. With these barriers, their spaces were blocked for private access, yet don’t look tacky like many of the ones I’ve researched on the web. They were easy to install, and everyone is happy.”

Designated Parking and its principals have been designing and manufacturing award-winning, high-volume security systems for the automotive, commercial, industrial and residential markets since 1972. With product development, engineering and corporate functions headquartered in West Orange, NJ, Designated Parking’s products are built at an affiliated world-class ISO Certified manufacturer in Shenzhen, China, and sold worldwide.
