O&S Associates has opened a new office in Chicago. It will be headed by Larry Church, P.E., who has been a member of the parking industry for 30 years and has 25 years of experience in the design and restoration of parking garages. He has 13 years’ experience in senior roles at a number of public and private real estate companies. Also, the private equity real estate investment firm, focused on building industry-leading companies within niche real estate sectors, has promoted Cheri M. Scully to Vice President. She has worked with the firm on a contract basis since 2008, joining it in January 2011 as an Associate. Watry Design has played a role in several recent private development projects, most notably Runway at Playa Vista. Once the West LA home to the Howard Hughes aerospace empire, the site now under construction will include 221,000 square feet of retail, 420 apartments and 35,000 square feet of office space spread across three separate buildings. Watry performed demand analysis to right-size the parking and maximize parking efficiency per dollar spent before planning the 1,714-space structure to support the dynamic mixed-use development. Construction is expected to last less than two years, with tenants opening their doors before the holiday shopping season in 2014.

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton has received a $2.4 million research grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to explore the development of energy efficient lighting products. Eaton’s research, slated for completion in 2015, will aim to improve the manufacturing speed of light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures by three times over the typical rate; reduce LED light engine costs by five times; and reduce assembly costs by approximately 50%.
Dur-A-Flex Inc., a leading manufacturer of commercial, industrial and institutional seamless resinous flooring, has named Lee C. Nabb as Business Development Manager, Midwest. His appointment adds muscle to the business development group, helping to further extend its architectural reach by targeting specifiers from western Pennsylvania to Kansas and from Minnesota to Texas. MaxLite marked its 20th anniversary in mid-July with a barbecue celebration, with nearly 100 employees, their families and guests in attendance. Employees were given a half day off work to celebrate with family and friends at a local park about two miles from company headquarters in West Caldwell, NJ, The Paramus Post reported. “From a modest three-person start-up in Palisades Park, it’s amazing to see how much MaxLite has grown in the past 20 years,” said its President, Yon Sung. “Today, because of our talented workforce and quality products, MaxLite has established itself on a national and international scale.”
FAAC Group has acquired Olmi Impianti Srl, an Italian company with 20 years’ experience in providing turnkey solutions for parking systems and pedestrian access control systems. To be named HUB Italia, it will be part of HUB Parking Technology, a business unit of FAAC Group. This deal will enlarge its Italian customer base and will be able to offer its systems, installation and commissioning services as well as after-sales assistance, the company said.
Global communications provider and integrator Orange Business Services (OBS), based in Paris, has announced a deal with Streetline that expands the California company’s smart-parking technology into France. The solution is designed to help drivers identify open parking spaces in real-time and guide them to the spot. City leaders can use it to better understand parking trends and road traffic in their municipalities, the company says. OBS is responsible for commercializing, deploying and supporting the solution for cities and parking management companies in France. Data generated from Streetline sensors are carried over Orange’s network.
American Valet has announced its partnership with The Downs Racetrack and Casino “in the heart of” Albuquerque, NM. The newly built 60,000-square-foot state-of-the-art gaming facility, with more than 750 slot machines, will offer valet parking for its guest and patrons, as well as Valet Express, which provides patrons a call-ahead option to have their car waiting on exiting.
