Delta Scientific has announced that a crash test of its new DSC720-1M bollards, created to stop taller trucks, such as those found in Europe and the Mideast, from tumbling over anti-terrorist crash-proof bollards, stopped a 15,000 pound flatbed truck impacting at 50 mph, with only a 0.5 meter penetration of the vehicle, resulting in an M50, P1 ASTM rating. The bollards caused severe damage to the engine and drive train. “This is the type of stopping power customers want,” SVP David Dickinson said.
HID Global recently announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted several patents for its innovation related to gesture-based methods of using three-dimensional motion sequences to increase privacy, security and convenience when using RFID-based devices such as smartcards and NFC-enabled smartphones for a broad range of applications. These patent additions strengthen the company’s IP portfolio of more than 1,000 pending and issued patents, and protect the company’s intellectual capital.
HUB Parking Technology Australia (formerly DataPark) has been contracted by businessman Darren Nicholson to install a 24-hour carpark control room for National Maintenance Management (NMM) in Tuggerah, New South Wales. It will allow small operators of DataPark equipment, such as Hunter Parking in nearby Newcastle, to divert after-hours operations of their carparks to NMM. The control room provides direct intercom and video connection to carparks, and is able
to monitor the messages and alarms for each carpark and control
the functionality of doors, boom gates and automatic parking
management equipment.
IntegraPark and TIBA have announced the integration of the Paris monthly parker billing system with the TIBA access control system. This is designed to eliminate duplicate data entry, ensure that all active cards are being billed, and enable automatic blocking of cards for non-payment. The Belgian city of Kortrijk has introduced innovative Shop & Go zones, powered by Nedap wireless parking sensors, in its historical center. Visitors running a quick errand or suppliers delivering packages are able to use the free short-stay parking solution. Drivers do not even need a ticket, thanks to the company’s intelligent sensor system.
Phillips Parking has been retained as parking consultants for the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts under construction in downtown Orlando, FL. Scheduled to open next year at a projected cost of nearly $400 million, the center will include two performance theaters, a community theater, outdoor plaza and performance space, rehearsal rooms, banquet space, administrative offices, educational facilities and future commercial development.
Sustainability expert Steph Stoppenhagen of CH2M Hill, a global full-service consulting, design, construction and operations firm, has been named to the expert advisory council of Smart Grid Oregon, a trade association committed to promoting the “smart grid” industry and infrastructure in Oregon. She is recognized as an expert in global sustainability, renewable energies and “smart cities” technology.

The Genetec AutoVu license pay-by-plate (PBP) system has been chosen by the Borough of State College, PA, to become part of one of the country’s first such parking systems. “Until recently, we were operating a very diverse, manually operated parking system,” said Charles DeBow, Borough Parking Manager, “with at least five or six different types of parking permits ... as well as different systems for parking lots, street parking and resident permits. What we set out to do was to create a new type of unified parking system ... that would make the lives of our residents and visitors simpler.”
The Parking Spot, one of the nation’s largest off-airport parking companies, has promoted Ed Orkand to Vice President of Field Sales. He joined the company in 2005 and is said to have been a key contributor to its revenue growth and sales strategies.
High Concrete Group, an affiliate of High Industries Inc., has named John J. Seroky as its President. Previously GM of Otis Elevator, Southern Region, he led sales and operations for business lines including construction, repair and maintenance. “J. is a proven leader and team builder,” said Jeffrey Sterner, President and COO of High Industries. “We’re very pleased to have him join our team.”

The Tilt-Up Concrete Association (TCA), the global authority for the tilt-up industry, has promoted Mitch Bloomquist from Project Manager to Managing Director. He began his tenure with the TCA in August 2010, when he joined the management firm contracted with the association. Designa also officially noted, early this year, that it had won the contract for a new parking management system at Frankfurt Airport, No. 3 in Germany, with 57.5 million passengers and about 500,000 aircraft movements a year. That, the company said, leaves little doubt about the challenges facing its Abacus system: managing 4,000 public parking spaces, with several million parking operations per year.
