Utah Property Management Associates (UPMA) has launched a partnership with PassportParking. Drivers parking in four select UPMA lots will be able to use their cellphones to pay for parking, using PassportParking’s innovative and easy-to-use technology. The company plans to make the technology available at all of its 14,000 parking spaces throughout Salt Lake City, including the 5,000-space underground City Creek Center garage. In addition to providing a more convenient payment option for customers, this partnership also gives UPMA access to PassportParking’s fully integrated cloud-based revenue control and parking management tools.
Parkmobile USA has implemented its mobile payment parking service in Traverse City, MI. Customers can pay for parking with their cellphone using the company’s native mobile applications for the iPhone, Android, Windows and BlackBerry smartphones. Once registered, customers can use the mobile app, the Internet, or a toll free number to pay for parking. After setting up the account, they can immediately start using the system with their registered mobile phone. They also can select the option to receive alerts and reminders 15 minutes before the parking session expires.
Kelly Birr has been appointed President of OmniPark. A Co-Founder of its parent company, Imprezzio, he will continue as its Chief Information Officer. OmniPark provides customized parking software solutions using the power of “the cloud” and cutting-edge technology, taking tech in new directions and applying existing tech in innovative new ways. Imprezzio has more than 10 years’ experience in building workflow management systems for some of the world’s largest organizations.
Energy Lighting Group (ELG), a division of Simkar, has successfully completed an energy-efficient lighting installation for Super Park garage at Hobby airport in Houston. Owned by an investor group led by John Hammerschlag and operated by ABM, the facility was due for a lighting upgrade. Built in 1993 to serve travelers flying out of Hobby, the garage’s original HID and fluorescent lighting was no longer performing efficiently or reliably. In May 2012, ELG began its analysis of the site and determined a preliminary plan based on updated technology and energy efficiency, as well as substantial use of DesignLights Consortium-listed fixtures.
McCarthy Building Cos. has completed a $11.5 million design-build parking structure at Soka University in Aliso Viejo, CA. Built on an existing parking lot, the new 214,983-square-foot project features 677 parking spaces and was completed two weeks ahead of schedule. McCarthy partnered with Choate Parking Consultants on the design and construction of the post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete structure. The façade, designed in harmony with the existing campus, features painted plaster, architectural shapes along three sides and Italian travertine stone bands around the elevator tower and windows.
Cooper Lighting, a leader in transforming the lighting industry and in setting the standard for innovation and reliability, has announced the winners of its 36th Annual Source Awards national lighting design competition. The winners were recognized at LightFair International 2013 in mid-April in Philadelphia. Six professional awards included Robert Singer and Associates; Creative Artists and Designs; and Tec Studio Inc. In other news, Cooper also has been named the “preferred brand of choice” in the Lighting: Interior/Exterior category in Architect magazine’s 2013 Brand Use Study. Surveyed readers of the official publication of the American Institute of Architects, named the company as a brand leader in Brand Familiarity, Brands Specified/Used in the Past Two Years, and Brand Specified/Used the Most.

For example, Parking management company Soluzioni Mobilita has ordered 25 Elite solar-powered pay-and-display machines for a project in central Italy. Distributor Projekt Pro has ordered 24 Elites for a historical spa town in central Bohemia. And Sicpar has placed its first major order, for 30 Elites for a parking management company in Mexico City.

FST said the acquisition strengthens its core civil engineering, planning and environmental consulting services, while bolstering its existing portfolio in municipal, commercial, institutional and certain transportation markets. “From our first meeting with Bill Hoffman, we could clearly see how our service and market strengths complement each other,” said FST President and CEO Peter J. Howe. “It’s a great match for both companies.” Said Hoffman, who joins FST as a Vice President and Associate: “I don’t think that we, collectively, could have asked for a better partner to take us to the next phase of our professional careers.”
Parkopedia has announced that its parking data have been selected by Inrix to power the 2013 range of the Lexus IS model. The in-car parking service will feature information on more than 42,000 parking lots, including real-time space availability. Lexus IS drivers will be directed to the nearest and least expensive available parking location to their chosen destination. CEO Eugene Tsyrklevich said, “The 21st-century driver expects information at their fingertips ... and this is an important step toward this goal.”

Drivers can pay for parking via the mobile app, texting from any mobile device or calling via any phone. Now parkers can pay for the exact time they are parked, rather than play a guessing game.

The 815-space, four-level garage is strategically located to provide a convenient parking resource for students, campus staff and campus police. It was constructed simultaneously with an adjacent campus police substation. A secured parking area for police is included within the ground level of the garage, providing direct access into the substation.
T2 Systems has announced a real-time integration with the CBORD Odyssey PCS, CS Gold, and OdysseyOne campus ID card systems to enable quick and secure payment for parking through the T2 Flex unified parking management platform. T2 unifies parking management functions like permit management, parking enforcement, access and revenue control, and event parking with the T2 Flex platform.
ECO Parking Lights has chosen to use only lamps and ballasts made in North America in their ECO FlexTech Induction fixture. Its lighting partner, Sylvania, has announced an 8% increase in performance from the Icetron Induction lamp. Also, the lumen loss has been reduced to only a 24% loss of output over 10 years, down from a 35% loss. Also, the company has promoted William Longardner to Director of Product Development. He is the inventor and co-patent holder of the ECO Bracket and the ECO FLED fixture.
The Southwest Parking Association has been renamed Southwest Parking & Transportation Association or SWPTA. In an effort to serve the evolving dynamics of the parking industry, the name change was said to symbolize how parking and transportation are interconnected systems, and “when professionals in both industries work together, they can achieve elevated outcomes.”

Ace Parking feeds live occupancy counts directly to the ParkMe smartphone application, ultimately driving traffic to the lots with available parking. “To Ace, this solution represents another example of how we can better service our customers,” said Brian Tarbell, Regional Parking Director. Said Case VP John Couvrette Vice President: “By helping customers identify real-time parking options, we are alleviating the need to circle the block in searching for parking.”
