Amir Sedadi, formerly with the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation has joined IPS Group as Vice President, Intelligent Transportation Systems. He told Parking Today that he was following his passion for Intelligent Transportation Systems and bringing a new level of commitment to transportation and smart technology to IPS.

EDC Corporation introduces the AIMS Event POS module for field sales of special event permits. Real time credit card or cash transactions are recorded for customized special event permit sales. Pre-paid event parking is sold online and checked in with the AIMS Ticketer Event POS. Real time integration into the AIMS Event module for reporting and customer billing is automated. The system is currently being used to great success at Washington State University.

Richard N. Best Associates of Levittown, PA, recently earned a statewide award in parking design and innovation for its work to upgrade and replace the parking access and revenue control system at Harrisburg (PA) International Airport. VP Jeffrey M. Best was on hand at the 2012 Pennsylvania Parking Association (PPA) Conference, Workshop & Exhibition, in Pittsburgh, to receive the PPA’s 12th Annual Parking Design and Innovation Award in the Parking Addition/Improvement category. Completed this year, the winning project overhauled five parking facilities for the Susquehanna Area Regional Airport Authority.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection recently commissioned B.I.G. Enterprises to design and fabricate a number of bullet-resistant stainless steel guard booths to secure strategic areas along the vital Delaware Aqueduct, an 85-mile system that supplies drinking water to more than 8 million people in New York City and to about 1 million customers in surrounding counties. The result is a new model called the Water Protector. This high-security custom booth is perfectly suited to withstand harsh environmental conditions, and meets stringent, site-specific requirements for use in sensitive areas.

McCarthy Building Cos. has been awarded the $34 million design-build San Diego County Administration Center Waterfront Park Development project, located along Pacific Coast Highway in downtown San Diego. The project includes an underground parking garage. McCarthy’s design-build team includes SGPA, architect-of-record; Schmidt Design, landscape architect; and International Parking Design, for the parking portion of the project. Completion is slated for summer 2014.

O&S Associates, headquartered in Hackensack, NJ, has added Bob Weissenborn, R.A., Tim Webb, R.A. and Brian Bartholomew to the firm, which is becoming an industry leader in parking design, restoration and planning services. Weissenborn heads the firm’s new design division, and Bartholomew its parking planning and marketing divisions, both working out of the New Jersey office. Webb, responsible for restoration design projects, works from the firm’s New York City office.

Genetec has announced its new Infrastructure Partner Program, a certification program designed to qualify solutions from storage vendors to ensure optimal use with the Security Center, the company’s unified security platform. The certification program validates that purpose-built high-performance storage solutions demonstrate seamless integration with Genetec software.

The City of Richmond, VA, has signed on with a new parking contractor, Standard Parking Corp. A review by the city auditor’s office allegedly showed that the previous contractor, Lanier Parking Meter Services, had improperly charged the city more than $17,000, according to a Richmond News-Dispatch report. The city entered a five-year, $15 million contract with Standard, which provides parking enforcement officers and meter maintenance. The newspaper also reported that since it won the contract, Standard has brought in its own consulting team to advise the city on best practices for enforcing parking and adding customer-friendly automation.

Walker Parking Consultants is pleased to announce that Joey Rowland, PE has joined the firm as the Managing Principal of its new Charlotte, North Carolina office. In his new position, Rowland will establish and manage Walker’s newest location. “We have contemplated establishing a presence in the Carolinas for a number of years, and with Joey joining the firm, our plan has become a reality” said John K. Bushman, PE, president of Walker Parking Consultants. “Walker Parking has a number of high profile clients in the region, including Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Duke University, and Novant Health. We are confident that by adding Joey to the firm our client list will grow exponentially.”

Toshiba International has announced that its Toshiba TGT LED luminaires will replace more than 20,000 high-pressure sodium street lamps in San Antonio, TX. CPS Energy selected the LED roadway lighting after extensive investigation and experimentation with multiple LED luminaire options. Ultimately, Toshiba was selected for its product performance and LED technology expertise, which includes development of LED products that will be communications-enabled, allowing for connection to the “Smart Grid” and other communications technologies.

This is to announce that Cale Group from October 15th, 2012, opens a local sales office in Odense, Denmark. This is a further step in the on-going strategy of the Cale Group to develop a global network of subsidiaries and local partnerships world-wide. Jens Thorup has been appointed Managing Director of the new company. Mr Thorup has previous experience from working at the Danish Cale distributor for 10 years and has thereby achieved in-depth knowledge of the parking industry and the Cale product range. Thus, Cale looks forward to a fruitful future co-operation. “Denmark is”, according to Johan Broman, Nordic Sales Manager, “a very important market, where we want to put extra focus, and be able to serve the customers in a better way.”

The unique parking solutions from ParkTrak and WirelessCarpark utilize the Intermec handheld terminals. With ParkTrak’s recent agreement to act as a certified reseller for Wireless Carpark’s flat rate and event parking software, the two companies have joined forces, giving customers the ability to get even more use out of their hand held units. TagMaster North America, Inc., was installed at Lankenau Medical Center as part of the half-billion dollar expansion on the campus in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania that included revamping labs, refurbishing the medical center, building a new pavilion, and adding on more parking at the site. Twenty LR-6 PRO long-range RFID readers were installed over 10 entry lanes and 10 exit lanes, allowing for contract parkers to enter and exit the garages hands-free using the S1255 MarkTag Classic RFID tag.  Without the need to insert an access card or code, or even lower the vehicle window, the TagMaster system eliminates delays caused by congestion and reduces carbon emissions in parking garages.

As the National Football League season got underway, ParkWhiz.com announced an official partnership with the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens. MaxLite Senior VP of Sales Thomas Rhee has announced the appointment of Boyd Corbett to VP of Sales, Central Region. The move is intended to enhance services to customers, while increasing sales and market penetration in the region. Corbett, who will report directly to Rhee, will manage company sales through 17 Midwest states.

As Premium Parking continues to extend its management, consulting and operations services in the New Orleans region, the company has announced its expansion into the San Diego area. The company added Dan Donovan to its team as VP of Business Development in San Diego. With more than 12 years of experience marketing parking management services in Southern California, Donovan brings a wealth of industry knowledge and market contacts to the table. Premium CEO Jim Huger, who has been in the business for 20 years, said he was excited to expand company operations to the California market.

Standard Parking Corp. has announced that James Marcum, current CEO of Central Parking, will not serve as COO of Standard following the expected closing of the previously announced merger of the two companies. While Standard and Marcum were unable to reach agreement on the terms of the COO role, he will remain an active member of the executive-level Integration Planning Committee for as long as is determined to be ideal for the combined company, and for at least three months in all events, in order to facilitate a smooth and effective post-closing integration of the two companies.

The Parking Spot has won recognition for a double bottom-line economic and environmental ROI. The company says 30% of its shuttle buses run on compressed natural gas, which is cleaner burning and less costly than traditional fossil fuels.  Also, its facilities employ energy efficient lighting, waterless carwash systems, ventilation controls and automated payment technologies. The US Green Parking Council awarded three of its facilities Demonstrator Site Status for their commitment to sustainable technologies and programs.

Cooper Lighting, a lighting industry leader, was to be the premier host of the inaugural DesignLights Consortium (DLC) Stakeholder Meeting Oct. 28-31 in Atlanta. In addition to sponsoring three continuing education accredited classes on LED and lighting controls topics at the DLC meeting site, the company was to host a Welcoming Reception on Oct. 28 at its corporate headquarters in Peachtree City. The invitational event, which also qualifies for continuing education credits, was to include tours of the company’s Innovation Center and its Source educational facility.

The Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) Bonded Tendon Committee M-50 and the American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) joint task group have collaborated on the new “PTI/ASBI M50. 3-12, Guide Specification for Grouted Post-Tensioning.” It specifies materials, installation, stressing and corrosion-protection levels for grouted post-tensioning systems. “The goal is to have the specification adopted by most state Departments of Transportation,” said PTI Technical Director Miroslav Vejvoda, “which will simplify the approval process for the systems used in different areas of the country, while allowing for consideration of local environmental conditions.”
